    According to tradition, Saint Benedict blessed a cup of poisoned wine before drinking. At that very moment, the cup shattered, revealing the hidden danger and becoming a lasting symbol of God's protection over those who trust in Him.

    A MESSENGER OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE

    When Saint Benedict was offered poisoned bread, he instructed a raven to carry it away, saving his life. Since then, the raven has symbolized God's providence and His constant care for His faithful servants.

Saint Benedict of Nursia (c. 480–547 AD) is regarded as the Father of Western Monasticism and the author of the Rule of Saint Benedict, a spiritual guide founded on prayer, humility, and work. His life was marked by unwavering faith and deep trust in God. According to tradition, enemies attempted to poison him twice: first by offering him a cup of poisoned wine, which shattered when he blessed it with the Sign of the Cross, and later with poisoned bread, which he instructed a raven to carry away before it could harm him. These events became enduring symbols of God's protection and are still represented on the Medal of Saint Benedict today.
