During the Night from 18th and 19 th of July 1830, in a frightened France by a possible Revolution, Virgin Mary appeared to the young Novice Zoé Labouré inside the Daughters of Charity Chapel in rue du Bac. Nun Catherine, this is her Sister's name, received the extraordinary favour of conversing with Mary.

Several Marian Apparitions occurred in September, November and December of the same year. But it was on November 27 the most Famous and Important Virgin Mary's Apparition. Catherine reported that the Blessed Mother returned during evening meditations commissioning her to create the famous Medal of Grace. The Virgin spoke to Catherine saying "Those who wear it will receive great Graces. Graces will abound for those who will wear it with Confidence.

Only in February of the following year will she report to have seen two living paintings, upon Saint Joseph Statue, one fading into the other. In the first picture Catherine saw the Virgin standing on a Globe (the World) and crashing under her feet a snake. In the second Image she said that Virgin Mary appeared again without the globe and with open arms spreading rays of light from her Hands, Catherine saw surrounded Virgin Mary's head an oval shape  with the golden inscription "Mary conceived without Sin, Pray for Us". The detailed decription of the Vision originated the Miraculous Medal. The first medals were created in February 1831 and struck on June 30 of the same year, because of the numerous favours obtained wearing this medal, it was soon known as "Miraculous".
