Wooden Statue of St. Patrick

Saint Patrick wood statue carved and painted in South Tyrol. The Saint was not born in Ireland, but He became one of the most beloved and venerated Saint of the Country. He may have been born in Scotland. When he was Young, he was captured and sold as slave to the King in Ireland. After six years of captivity Life, in which He learnt Gaelic language, Celtic Mithology and He converted to Christainism, he escaped and tried to came back to his Family in Britain. He arrived in France, at Auxerre, where he was consecreted Deacon and after that he became Bishop. Pope Celestine I chose Him to preach the Gospel to Irish Territories. He was a Couragous Man able to convert Pagan People to Christianity, his Task was not easy. Ireland was a Pagan country with its own rules, and very often Patrick had some problems with these, not just for him and Pagan but with Clergy as well. Usually Religious Iconography depicts Him wearing Green, it remembers us the Colour of the Green Ireland,holding a book, reminding us his preaching of the Gospel into Ireland, and holding a Shamrock. It is said that Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity through the it.
